One-Mix Chocolate Sponge Cake

 235 g soft margarine, at room temperature
 155 g caster sugar
 5 tbsp golden syrup
 235 g self raising flour, sifted
 3 tbsp cocoa powder, sifted
 ½ tsp salt
 4 eggs, beaten

- preheat the oven to 180C/Gas 4
- grease and line a 20cm loose bottom cake tin

- cream together the margarine, sugar, syrup, flour, cocoa, salt and eggs in a bowl
- spoon the mixture into the prepared tin and bake for about 30 minutes, until just firm and springy to the touch

- leave to cool for 5 minutes, then remove from the tin and leave to cool completely on a wire rack
