One-Mix Chocolate Sponge Cake

 

Ingredients­­­

 

  • 235g soft margarine, at room temperature
  • 155g caster sugar
  • 5 tablespoons golden syrup
  • 235g self raising flour, sifted
  • 3 tablespoons cocoa powder, sifted
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 4 eggs, beaten

 

 

Method

  • - preheat the oven to 180C/Gas 4
  • - grease and line a 20cm loose bottom cake tin
  • - cream together the margarine, sugar, syrup, flour, cocoa, salt and eggs in a bowl
  • - spoon the mixture into the prepared tin and bake for about 30 minutes, until just firm and springy to the touch
  • - leave to cool for 5 minutes, then remove from the tin and leave to cool completely on a wire rack
